Exploring Minnamurra to Kiama

I have done this coastal walk from Gerringong to Minnamura a few months ago but I realised I missed some interesting places along the way. This time I came back to explore this section in greater depth.

We began the walk from Minnamura station and took a short walk to Minnamurra river. A little beach led to a rocky headland.






We made a few wrong turns which led us to some magical places. We might have trespassed through some people's backyards along the way.....


We took a back way which we thought was a short cut. Not long after, I started to wonder if this is leading anywhere? It did lead us to another beach, and at the end of that beach we found this waiting around the corner.....




THE CATHEDRAL ROCK!

The last time I saw it was from a lookout. I did wonder back then if I could walk down, closer to the rock, but I couldn't see the path. So this was a really pleasant surprise for me. This of course means.... Photo time!

We couldn't see any path that will lead us out to the main road by continuing so we had to turn around and head back. There were a few stairs from the beach but it seemed like they all leading into people's houses. We even walked up an extremely steep hill and thought it was a 'short cut', but it wasn't. Not sure how I managed to not roll down the hill because it was VERY steep.

Once we got to the road, the walk continued to Bombo Quarry. Another magical place.







We then walked across another beach, Bombo beach, before we got to Kiama. Tried to find a cafe for a quick late lunch, but I must say, everything there is overpriced.

Had great fun exploring the area. There were surprises around every corner. Really worth spending time and exploring the area. Lessons learnt today are ..... DON'T believe in short cuts..... and choosing the road less taken may lead you to magnificent places.

KINGS CANYON RIM WALK  Kings Canyon rim walk in Watarrka National Park is one of my favourite walks. The walk ascends to the top of the canyon and follows the canyon rim around until it descends to the car park. I have seen pictures of this spectacular place and I was really excited to be there, and the real canyon did not disappoint. We stayed overnight, close by at Kings Canyon Resort, so we could get an early start. We got to Kings Canyon car park the following day and we realised that we didn't have an early start. Tasmania Trip Day 3 - Cradle Mountain

The day started with a terrible thunderstorm early in the morning. I was wondering if we could make it to any of the walks today. Luckily the rain stopped before we left our cottage. If you followed the post for Tasmania Trip Day 2 and remembered the picture of the Dove Lake, the lake today looked like this.... If you asked me, what's the difference? Then let me remind you what the photo looked like yesterday...... With the obvious difference in the lake colour, where did the mountain peaks go?? This will be interesting as our plan today was to climb Cradle Mountain Summit. The route we were planning to take today is from Dove Lake car park to Wombat Pool,  Crater Lake, Marion Lookout, Kitchen Hut, Cradle Mountain Summit, Face Track to Hansons Peak, Lake Rodway Track, and back to the Dove Lake car park. Cowan to Berowra via Berowra Waters

From my experience of this walk a year ago, I remembered it to have numerous painful climbs up and down steep hills and rocks. Last time we walked from Cowan to Mt Kuring-gai, the station after Berowra. I thought if I managed to do that, this walk should be much easier. Although from memory, Cowan to Berowra Waters was the most difficult part. The rest wasn't as bad. Once the climb started, I realised the climb was as painful as I have remembered. I don't think I have become any fitter since the last time I attempted this walk. We caught the ferry from one side to the other side for lunch. It is a cable ferry that connects Berowra Waters and Berowra Heights. It take people and vehicles, and takes only about 2 minutes to get to the other side.
