Caves Beach

Caves Beach has a network of sea caves that can be explored during low tide. I have seen a lot of beautiful photos of this place and I wanted to see it for myself. It is only about 1.5 hours drive from Sydney, east of Lake Macquarie. The caves are located on the south part of Hams Beach. There are plenty of parkings, BBQ/picnic facilities, toilets, shower, and kiosk close by. Initially I thought there is just one cave, but there are actually plenty of small caves and areas to explore. There are a few rock ponds and areas between rocks to swim in. There is a short coastal walking track south of Caves Beach to Spoon Rocks Beach, a much quieter and private beach, and Spoon Rocks Split. This is a very unique beach and is definitely worth visiting. I am planning to go back to the caves during sunset or sunrise. The views from the caves would be even more stunning. Box Beach and Fingal Spit

We began the day with watching the sunrise from Box Beach. Although it was tough to get up so early in the morning, especially I am not a morning person, but the view was worth the effort. Just check out the photos yourself.... We then headed to Fingal Bay, hoping to cross the spit to Fingal Island and Port Stephens Lighthouse. The track started with a walk in the bushland on a firetrail. It led us up a very steep sand hill to the top, then follow the sand down to the spit. The view was beautiful on the way down to the beach while the sun was still rising at the background.     Unfortunately, the spit was not exposed at low tide today and we cannot cross to Fingal Island. The wave was coming over the spit at opposite directions and the current was strong. Fingal spit, or sometimes referred to as the death trap, has claimed at least 15 lives of people who attempted to cross and got swept away by the sea. Anything ab...
