Lockley Pylon to Blue Gum Forest Walk

Image
To escape the heat in Sydney, we did a walk in the Blue Mountains with a very pleasant top temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. However it was forecast to be very windy in the afternoon. We turned off at Leura and drove along the dirt road for about half an hour to the start of the walk. The dirt road was bumpy at parts with pot holes, but it was manageable with a 2WD car. We parked at the car park near The Pinacles. The morning was sunny, but very windy already. I wasn't looking forward to the wind getting any stronger. The walk started with a gradual uphill. Haven't been doing much walks with big climbs and I had been sick with heavy chesty cough all week, I was already puffed out after few minutes of walking. I was thinking to myself, how was I suppose to climb back from Blue Gum Forest. We decided to go up to the top of Lockley Pylon on the way back as the afternoon lighting might be better. We walked past the turn off and continued along the track, whe...

Minnehaha Falls - Blue Mountains

Image
We saw the name of this track on the map and thought..... Are you serious? Minnehaha Falls at the end of Minni-Ha-Ha Road. All I can say after looking at it was "haha..." We were determined to find out if this is the official name. The name of this reserve is in fact Minnehaha, no joke. It is a beautiful short walking track that ends at the waterfall, Minnehaha Falls. The rain was drizzling while we started our walk. It was a peaceful and easy walk, There was a small river at the beginning of the walk. I guess the water in this river runs to the waterfall. We walked along the ridges on a flat path to a lookout. We could see that the waterfall was positioned at a much lower level than us. I wondered whether we could get to the bottom of the waterfall. I have seen photos taken right next to the waterfall and I was very keen to get there. Not long after, my question was answered. There was a steep metal steps going downwards, then more steep track, taking us ...

Mount Hay - Blue Mountains

Image
Mount Hay walk is a short walk in the Blue Mountains. There is a long drive on the dirt road (Mount Hay Road) to get to its car park, with bumpy and uneven grounds. At times like this, you will be wishing you have a four wheel drive if you are not driving one. My poor Jetta nearly gave up on a few occasions. There are a few walks along the way and Mount Hay car park is right at the end of Mount Hay Road. Walking up to Mount Hay from the car park is a short and a small climb to the top. It was a quiet walk as we only saw a few people there and most of them were just hanging around the start of the walk. The view along the way was beautiful. On our way driving back we did another even shorter walk to Flat Top. You can see Mount Hay in the distance. A very nice and peaceful day for me. Can't really say that for my car though. Total distance: 4.34km Climb: 205m Difficulty: Easy Go to the link below for information and m...

Hanging Rock and Baltzer Lookout, Blackhealth

Image
We were visiting the Hanging Rock and Baltzer Lookout today, somewhere I wanted to go for a while now, and it didn't disappoint. We started the walk from Blackheath train station and headed north to Burramoko fire trail on Ridgewell Road. Most of the walk was on this fire trail, which was very open and easy to walk on. There were slight ascends and descends, but people with general fitness should have no problem on this walk. The fire trail may become a bit boring and the walk will feel a bit lengthy as there were not much changes in the landscape. There were a few spots where you can peak and look out into the mountains and cliff faces in the distance, however most of these spots were closer to the end of the walk. I didn't mind the fire trail, and once you get to see the wonderful views from Baltzer lookout and the Hanging Rock you will soon forget the boring fire trail that you had just been on. On...
