Tasmania Trip Day 2 - Liffey Falls and Cradle Mountain
Day 2 of our trip we detoured to Liffey Falls on our way to Cradle Mountain. The walk is about 30 minutes return from the car park.
We then grabbed some grocery from Woolworth in Deloraine and headed off to Cradle Mountain. If you haven't read the previous post, and is planning to go to Tasmania, remember that plastic bags are not free in most places, even in Woolworth.
The staffs in the Cradle Mountain Information Centre were really helpful. You can purchase a Daily National Park Pass ($24 for 24 hours), a Holiday National Park Pass ($60 for up to 8 weeks), or Annual National Park Pass ($96 for 1 year). http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/?base=914 We were given a map and information about the walks.
There are limited car allowed to drive the Dove Lake car park due to the limited car spaces. If you are planning to drive there, go earlier or later. There are frequent shuttle buses from the information centre. It is free with your National Park Passes. Ask at the Information Centre for the bus passes.
With the prediction of thunderstorm for the following day, we decided to do the Dove Lake circuit first. The lake colour was beautifully blue under the sunlight. It is a 2 hours, fairly flat walk, for all ages and fitness level. It started from the Dove Lake car park
Total distance: 6km
Climb: 170m
After the Dove Lake Circuit, we had a bit of time before dark so we decided to do some shorter walks around the Interpretation Center/Cradle Mountain Lodge.
Pencil Pine Falls and Rainforest Walk, a very flat and easy 10 minutes walk from the Interpretation Centre.
Dove Canyon Circuit, a 2-3 hours walk with steep ascend and decend, and rough surfaces, from the Interpretation Centre. The circuit passes Knyvet Falls.
Steep and rocky decent to the canyon.
Knyvet Falls
Enchanted Walk, a flat and easy 20 minutes return walk from Cradle Mountain Lodge.
A great day full of walks, waterfalls and nature. The weather was perfect for it!

This was the nice and cosy 2 bedroom cottage that we stayed in at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village.
When we got back to our cottage, there were visitors waiting for us in our front yard.
A great day full of walks, waterfalls and nature. The weather was perfect for it!
