Tasmania Trip Day 1 - Launceston

We arrived at Launceston in the afternoon to begin our 9 days trip in Tasmania. The weather forecast for Tasmania for the coming week was pretty wet, but day 1 was a beautiful sunny day.

With the top temperature of 23-24 degrees, it actually felt much warmer than that. We picked up our little red hired car and headed towards Cataract Gorge.

There was a chairlift for $12 one way, $15 return, but you could also walk to the otherside in 10 minutes. The chairlift is apparently the longest single chairlift in the world. (unless they forgot to take the sign down when longer chairlifts were built) We saw many wildlife in the park... peacocks, wallabies and birds. There was a pool right next to the chairlift which looked very tempting in the heat. There were a few tracks that you can take around the park. We only had time to visit one of lookout.

We stayed in Auldington. A very comfortable hotel near the central of Launceston. The staff at the reception was very friendly and helpful. He showed us our room, common areas, and gave us information on what attractions and restaurants are around. We had 2 large TVs with our 1 bedroom suite, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. There was a common room with a balcony looking into the beautiful view of Launceston.

We decided to go to Jailhouse Grill for dinner. It served pretty decent steak with all you can eat salad bar. We went right at their opening time, 5:45pm, without a booking, but the restaurant looked pretty busy on the Saturday night. Might be worth making a reservation just in case.

Jailhouse Grill also sell souvenirs such as handcuffs, T-shirts, and keys. I wondered if the axe is also for sell?

Just a tip if you are planning to go to Tasmania. Most places do no supply plastic bags. bring some shopping bags or plastic bags.
