Mount Hay - Blue Mountains

Mount Hay walk is a short walk in the Blue Mountains. There is a long drive on the dirt road (Mount Hay Road) to get to its car park, with bumpy and uneven grounds. At times like this, you will be wishing you have a four wheel drive if you are not driving one. My poor Jetta nearly gave up on a few occasions.


There are a few walks along the way and Mount Hay car park is right at the end of Mount Hay Road. Walking up to Mount Hay from the car park is a short and a small climb to the top.




It was a quiet walk as we only saw a few people there and most of them were just hanging around the start of the walk. The view along the way was beautiful.







On our way driving back we did another even shorter walk to Flat Top. You can see Mount Hay in the distance.




A very nice and peaceful day for me. Can't really say that for my car though.

Tasmania Trip Day 3 - Cradle Mountain

The day started with a terrible thunderstorm early in the morning. I was wondering if we could make it to any of the walks today. Luckily the rain stopped before we left our cottage. If you followed the post for Tasmania Trip Day 2 and remembered the picture of the Dove Lake, the lake today looked like this.... If you asked me, what's the difference? Then let me remind you what the photo looked like yesterday...... With the obvious difference in the lake colour, where did the mountain peaks go?? This will be interesting as our plan today was to climb Cradle Mountain Summit. The route we were planning to take today is from Dove Lake car park to Wombat Pool,  Crater Lake, Marion Lookout, Kitchen Hut, Cradle Mountain Summit, Face Track to Hansons Peak, Lake Rodway Track, and back to the Dove Lake car park. Kata Tjuta - Valley of the Winds/Walpa Gorge Walk

Kata Tjuta, also know as the Olgas, means "many heads" in the local language. It consists of an impressive collection of 36 domes caused by weathering and erosion, with the highest dome rising 546m above the plain, 1066m above sea level, and 198m higher than Uluru. It is a less talked about place compared to Uluru. VALLEY OF THE WINDS WALK Valley of the Winds walk was a highlight of Kata Tjuta National Park as it winds through the gigantic domes which made me feel very small among them. It was a more difficult walk in the area as it has steep ascends and descends. Reasonable fitness is required to complete the loop walk, but it's not too difficult. My parents, who were in their 60's, haven't done much bushwalks, were able to complete the whole loop walk without any problems. Kings Canyon NT

KINGS CANYON RIM WALK  Kings Canyon rim walk in Watarrka National Park is one of my favourite walks. The walk ascends to the top of the canyon and follows the canyon rim around until it descends to the car park. I have seen pictures of this spectacular place and I was really excited to be there, and the real canyon did not disappoint. We stayed overnight, close by at Kings Canyon Resort, so we could get an early start. We got to Kings Canyon car park the following day and we realised that we didn't have an early start. Tour buses had already arrived and a lot of people had started the walk. The temperature of the day was mostly sunny with a comfortable low 20°C. However, the walk was very exposed and under the sun you heat up really quickly.
