Tasmania Day 4 - Walls of Jerusalem National Park
We left Cradle Mountain today and headed off to the National Park next to it, Walls of Jerusalem National Park.
Although this two national parks are right next to each other on the map, it is still a 2.5 hours drive. Going into Walls of Jerusalem National Park, the road was very rough and rocky which prevented our little car from going any faster than 10km/hour. We didn't get to the car park until around 11-11:30am and today was meant to be a tough long walk. We just have to see how far we go and cut the trip shorter.
The walk began with a long and continuous climb without much to see until we reached a nice section with flowers along the track.
Kept walking along the track and we got to a beautiful lake, Solomon's Jewels, where we sat and had our lunch.
The park takes its name from the geological features of the park which are thought to resemble the walls of the city of Jerusalem. As a result many places and features within the park also have Biblical references for names, such as Herods Gate, Lake Salome, Solomons Jewels, Damascus Gate, the Pool of Bethesda.
Once we reached Harod's Gate, the view was breathtaking. The area was so open, spacious, and relaxing, with the peaks surrounding us, creating a wall around a central area.
First we saw King David's Peak....
Then we walked along the West Wall...
Inside of Walls of Jerusalem.
Took a break and have our afternoon tea at Pool of Bethesda.
Due to our time limitation, we attempted an easier peak, The Temple. Although it is meant to be easier, it was no walk in the park. The climb was still tiring and interesting as the steps are piles of huge rocks. The view up the top of The Temple was very pictureque.
Praying on the top of The Temple. And no, it didn't come true. Prayed for good weather and it started to rain the following day with not so great weather for the rest of our trip. So don't bother :(
Heading back home before sun goes down...
This is probably my favourite walk in Tasmania. It's harder to get to and a tougher walk, but definitely worthwhile.
